Fisher & Sons Builds Carlisle Manufacturing Plant in Spanaway
Burlington, WA, August 24, 2012 – Fisher & Sons Design / Build Contractors recently completed the tilt-up phase of Carlisle Construction Manufacturing’s 400,000 sq. ft. facility in Spanaway, Washington. The plant is being built in the Randles Business Park south of Seattle. The construction team broke ground late last winter, and will complete the facility in November of 2012 for manufacturing operations to commence in early 2013.
The facility will produce Hunter Panels, a division of Carlisle Construction Materials. Carlisle is a diversified global company, developing and manufacturing materials for construction, transportation, food services and aerospace. The plant in Spanaway will be the company’s seventh facility producing insulated foam roofing materials which reduce a building’s energy consumption. It will produce product to meet commercial and residential market needs of the Pacific Northwest including neighboring Canadian provinces.
The 400,000 sq. ft. building is large enough to house more than 8 football fields under its roof. The tilt-up phase of the project was completed over 5 days. The 35 ft tall walls were poured, set and cured, and then lifted into place and braced until tied into the roof structure. The building is built using using as many of Carlisle building products as possible, including the company’s EPDM roofing and EPS Foam for wall insulation.
Designed by FSI Architects, Fisher & Sons’ architectural division, the team is working with several engineering companies from the Puget Sound area including Barghausen Consulting Engineers for civil and PSM Consulting Engineers for structural engineering.
Pete Franzosa, director of plant engineering for Pennsylvania-based Carlisle, estimated construction will cost $16 million to $18 million. The project broke ground late last fall, and will be completed in November of 2012. Before choosing Fisher & Sons for the project, Franzosa said Carlisle talked to seven groups about the plant. He called Fisher & Sons “the most aggressive, full-service group we happened on.”
